We teach the American style of Ballroom.  Level 1 includes Foxtrot, Waltz, Contemporary Slow Dancing, and Tango or Rumba. Foxtrot, which is the most popular Ballroom dance, has been around since the days of vaudeville.  It's a great dance for the beginner because of its easy step patterns and moderate tempo.  It is danced to big band music as well as Frank Sinatra style tunes, and is especially popular at weddings and social events.

Waltz is danced all over the world. It was introduced in the Royal Courts of Europe and at one time was considered sinful because the dancers embraced one another.  Waltz has a distinctive tempo of 3 beats to a measure.  It is also very popular at weddings and anniversary parties, as well as other formal social events.

Rumba is a slow, romantic dance with a simple basic.  It originated in Cuba in the 1940's and is inspired by African rhythms and Latin melodies.

Tango is a sensual dance which originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In the 1920's and 30's it traveled across the ocean to the elegant salons of Paris and also became popular among Bohemians in the United States.  There are different styles of Tango.  We teach the American style in our beginning ballroom class.  For those who are interested, we offer a separate 8 week course in the authentic Argentine Tango.

Contemporary Slow Dancing is a glorified lounge dance for really slow romantic songs. Instead of just rocking back and forth in a bear hug, we give you style and form without losing the romance!

BALLROOM I

Ballroom I is taught as an 8 Week session and is especially popular with couples who are engaged. We teach four dances in this class:  Foxtrot, Waltz, Contemporary Slow Dancing and Tango or Rumba. The Studio offers one new beginning class per month.  Simply choose which session is best for your schedule. Ballroom I is the only course in the entire curriculum where a partner is required.  If you do not have a partner but wish to take this class, call the Studio and we will put you on a list with other individuals who are looking for partners.
