Salsa is an upbeat Latin dance that is easy to learn!   It evolved in the 70's when dancers started to mix Mambo, a popular Latin dance from the 40's and 50's, with the exciting and quick turning patterns of the Hustle, a 70's disco dance.  Salsa is very popular in Los Angeles and there are lots of night clubs where you can go dancing.  We also teach Merengue, Cha Cha and Mambo as part of the salsa curriculum.  These three dances are also very popular in L.A.'s nightclub scene.

SALSA I

You may start Beginning Salsa at anytime!  Our Salsa program does not run in sessions and no partner is required.  The Studio offers three beginning classes per week and you may come as often as you like.  Most people will take Beginning Salsa for one or two months before feeling comfortable enough to move to the next level.  In order to advance to the next level you must know these steps:  the progressive and side basic, and how to turn to the left and right in salsa timing.

  SALSA I.5

Salsa I.5 is designed as a bridge into Salsa II. It prepares you for an intermediate level paced class. Salsa I.5 introduces "Cross Body Lead" as well as some simple turn combinations. "Cross Body Lead" is one of the primary steps in Salsa that threads the dance together. Most people take Salsa I.5 at least 6 to 8 times. The Salsa program is designed so you can move yourself into the next level at your own pace, so you may stay in any of our classes as long as you need to.

 SALSA II

You may join our Salsa II classes as soon as you can lead or follow the basic steps and turn to the right and left in Salsa timing and have been introduced to cross-body lead. Salsa II focuses on cross-body lead, spot turns, stop and go, the pretzel, and strengthening your leading and following skills. It is recommended that you stay in Salsa II for at least 3 to 6 months.

Please see our class schedule for the current dates and times.
