Tango, which originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, is considered one of the most beautiful dances in the world. In the 1920's and 30's it traveled across the ocean to the elegant salons of Paris and also became popular among bohemians in the United States. It reached its peak popularity in the 1940's with the melancholy and nostalgic voice of Carlos Gardel and the great tango orchestras that flourished during this period. The lyrics were written by poets drunk on life, women and love. Today tango is celebrated around the world.
LEVEL I
We teach authentic Argentine
Tango as it is danced in the clubs of
Buenos Aires. The Beginning
class is initially taught as an 8 week session. Level I emphasizes posture, step
patterns, leading & following skills, and interpreting the music. We offer a
four week extension at the completion of our 8 week session for those students
interested in continuing. After completing the extension class, you
may join our ongoing 1.5 class and continue building upon what you've learned.
If you already know your basic
step, ochos forward and ochos back, you may join the class currently in
session.

LEVEL 1.5 and II
Level 1.5 and II meets once a week and is an ongoing class. You must have completed all 3 months of Level I or already have a background in Argentine Tango to join this class. Level II emphasizes improvisation, dancing to the music, exciting step patterns, and effective leading and following skills in Tango, Tango Vals, and Milonga.
